Using Rubbish
My recent efforts in the studio have been around using rubbish. Traces, footprint and re evaluation as a resource . I look on it as a kind of technical studio exercise to push what I have to its maximum … not always through the press but often the pressure of the press squeezes the material into something else. and it is this transformation that I’m interested in.
So far i’ve had a few interesting results and many failures – often they are so flat as images so that brings into question how to show them – since making Magpie for the Bristol Art Library i am thinking that many of these might end up being bound in some way and then perhaps part of an instillation.
The rubbish is domestic from my own home or outside others and also agricultural plastic. Here are some examples.
