Woodcutting and mokuhanga

Mokuhanga working with Japanese ply we would cut a series of coloured areas that we can register and print by hand to form a multi coloured final prin. This technique uses special cutting tools, bamboo barrens , watercolours and Japanese papers and is slow and meditative. A truly beautiful ancient technique for small works in small editions.

Woodcutting – I also cut larger wood planes of pine and Japanese ply that are inked and printed by hand but without the rigour of Mokuhanga – this means that there is more freedom of scale and paper and colour. For those interested in larger more dynamic printing.
