catalogue of a walk

Nightingale 1

In early April 2020 I walked and recorded 4 Nightingales each defending their territories in the scrubland and forests where I live in southern France. This is the first Nightingale which I recorded on my phone. This particular bird was very close to the path in between a Mazet ( hut) in the Garrigues near the village. I couldn’t see the bird but I had to wait for about 4 mins until it began again to sing. I was aware that it too was listening to the other Nightingales . This song was directly copied by drawing into the woodcut for this installation. I have used 3 recordings of Strophes ( phrases ) and repeated them to make this work , each strophe has been taken from a recording of the Nightingales I came across on my walk that day.
