This woodcut represents 48 seconds of sound recorded in winter 2022 and spring 2021 in the same place.

Both recorded at Dawn they represent a visual script of the place through the call of birds. This is an ongoing piece and a place that I walk through and record often. I slow the sonograms down and divide them into just over 8 second fragments in order to see the song shapes clearly enough.Each wood plate is 2.25 seconds of sound, the lines are to keep the drawing as close as possible to the tempo of the recordings, they provide a framework for the song to exist in rather like a musical score.
